Zeba

Zeba was one of the most respected, gorgeous and graceful woman in Pakistan film industry. She started her film career from Karachi where producer Noor Mohammed Khan offered a role of heroine in his film "Zindagi", which could not complete due to some reasons and then she was casted in other Karachi made film "Shakir" which was released with the name of Chiragh Jalta Raha in 1962. She worked with 45 film directors. "Najma" was her first colour film 1970. "Rishta Hey Pyar Ka" was her first film which was shoot overseas. Her first Platinum Jubilee was Armaan which was Pakistan's first Platinum Jubilee Urdu film.
She received many awards in her film career.
During the struggle days, Zeba was called by Shareef Nayyar to work for his under direction film "Ishq par zor naheen (1963)" from Karachi to Lahore. On trail, Zeba was declared Fail and Shareef Nayyar passed the remarks that she is not a suitable actress and could not be a big actress in future, then he decided to take Musarrat Nazeer instead.

Asif Khan

Asif Khan

Hero and Villain

First film: Darra Khaibar (Pashto - 1971)

Asif Ali Khan was born in village Badrashi [also known as Badrakho] in 1947. The village is located about 10 km to the southeast of Nowshera [also known as Naokhaar]. He obtained in early education in his hometown and attended a college in Rawalpindi, earning a BA degree. In 1964 he joined Pakistan Army but did not like the job and resigned in 1965. Asif Ali Khan was married in 1966. Of his six children, only Arbaaz Khan chose to adopt the same profession as his father. Early on Asif had developed keen interest in the film industry. He would take regular visits to the industry in Lahore and join film crews on film shootings in Murree, Swat and a host of other locations. Asif Ali Khan had great admiration for Urdu actor Muhammad Ali; thus he developed close ties with him. It was Muhammad Ali that encouraged and facilitated Asif Ali Khan's entry into the film industry. Asif Ali Khan's first movie was a Pashto film Darra Khybar, produced in 1971. The film was an overnight success, making Asif Khan a household name. Darra Khybar turned out to be a milestone for many other Pashto artists as well. For instance, Gulnar Begum, Khyal Muhammad, and Kishwar Sultan recorded their first film song in this movie. Asif Ali Khan movie career has just been splendid. So far he has worked in about 375 movies that were produced in Urdu, Pashto or Punjabi. He has played diverse roles both as a hero and a villain. Indeed, Asif Ali Khan is a great Pukhtun artist -- whether it was his Pashto, Urdu or a Punjabi movie and regardless whether he played a hero or villain, Asif Ali Khan never disappointed his fans. His performance was always superb. When I recollect my impressions of Asif Ali Khan's movie career, one thing comes to my mind: Asif Khan is not only great but a decent artist. Probably decency is the only virtue that rare in film industry in general and Pashto movies in particular. Asif Ali Khan has never resorted to sub-standard behavior, and has always avoided roles that involved nudity, vulgarity, or other despicable behavior. There are two reasons that explain Asif Ali Khan's decent behavior: the great influence of core Pukhun values and his mentor Muhammad Ali who never resorted to base behavior either to survive in the film industry.

I think his first film was Shamim Aara/Waheed Murad Salgirah when his name was Imran... he played a villian role..

Film Industry

The chequered history of Pakistan film industry is interspersed with many vicissitudes. Starting almost from a scratch soon after the political division of the Sub-continent, it gradually progressed to achieve self-reliance and prosperity, and a time came when it could proudly and successfully compete with quality films made across the border in India, matching them in all departments of cinematography.
The golden era of Pakistan cinema was the period which spanned the decades of the 60s and 70s, although a number of good movies had already been produced in Lahore studios during the second half of the 50s. A large number of dedicated workers and movie-makers, who had made names during their stay in Mumbai, like producer-directors Nazir, Shaukat Hussain Rizvi and W Z Ahmad (and their actress-wives Swaran Lata, Nur Jehan and Neena); directors Nazir Ajmeri, Luqman, S Fazli and Masud Parvez; and play-actors of the calibre of Shah Nawaz, Shakir, Alauddin, Charlie, Ghauri, Himaliyawala, Sadiq Ali, Shameem, Najma and Ragni contributed to the evolution of Pakistan film industry during the formative years of the new state.
The factors which contributed to the decline of Pakistan film industry were: the loss of East Pakistan territory; the inception of television; and the infiltration of non-artistic financiers, who had no or little background, either in the arts, or business. Consequently, senior film-makers (directors and composers including) went into voluntary exile and the industry was taken over by those rich people who invested money for purposes other than artistic ends...

Ramchand Pakistani

The film storyRamchand Pakistani is derived from a true story concerning the accidental crossing of the Pakistan-Indian border during a period (June 2002) of extreme, war-like tension between the two countries by two members of a Pakistani Hindu family belonging to the 'untouchable' (Dalit) caste, and the extraordinary consequences of this unintended action upon the lives of a woman, a man, and their son. The singular theme of the film is how a child from Pakistan aged eight years learns to cope with the trauma of forced separation from his mother while being held prisoner, along with his father in the jail of a country i.e. India, which is hostile to his own, while on the other side of the border, the wife-mother, devastated by their sudden disappearance builds a new chapter of her life, by her solitary struggle for sheer survival. The film portrays the lives of a family that is at the bottom of a discriminatory religious ladder and an insensitive social system, which is nevertheless tolerant, inclusive and pluralist. The irony is compounded by the fact that such a family becomes hostage to the acrimonious political relationship between two neighbor-states poised on the brink of war.

Zille Shah

The most appreciated film of the year was actually the second part of block buster film Majajan..The storyEven though Kulsoom (Noor) is engaged to Sarwar Shah (Babar Butt) since childhood, she is deeply in love with Zill-e-Shah (Shan). When Kulsoom's marriage is discussed, she plainly refuses to marry Sarwar Shah, thus declaring her fondness for Zille instead. Consequently the matter is taken to Pir Sahib (Mustafa Qureshi) a widely respected figure in the village, who decides in favour of Sarwar Shah. Kulsoom's fate is seemingly sealed, but Zille doesn't accept it and kills Sarwar in an encounter. He is sent to jail but is let out on the terms that Kulsoom marries Abid Shah (Shafqat Cheema), the elder brother of his foe Sarwar Shah, Kulsoom protests over this injustice, but her crying comes to naught and she ends her life on her wedding night, choosing death over having a man other than Zill-e-Shah as husband. Zill-e-Shah is mortified by this tragic incident and he changes his lifestyle completely. He becomes more diabolical; he takes up drinking and starts visiting a Heer Mandi (Dancing girls).
